Why do you participate in Artists@Work? What do you expect from this experience?

I am Peruvian, I studied political science and now I do a master's degree in gender studies in Paris. I would like to find new ways and approaches to develop the social sciences in relation to gender and intercultural subjects from the use of photography.

Explain the main thematics of your project

The question of my work will be: what is the place of gender and intercultural relations in the humanitarian action of the young people in Paris?

This question concerns the work they do in Associations, but also their relations with the political authorities, the neighborhood's neighbors, his family or his colleagues.I propose developed a visual serie that will use the interviews already done, an accumulated archive work, and will include new field observations and relevant interviews.

Explain the different stages of production of your work

First of all, i going to participate in an humanitarian association to know personnally the humanitarian work. In a second phase, i would constructing visual stories based on the humanitarian work of young people in Paris. This work will consist of recorded interviews and taking photos. Finally, it will consist of presenting this work with the people who participate in the project and who can make recommendations for the final edition.

Explain the choice of the title

Action and reaction has to do with the duality in which we can understand many situations in which contemporary society finds itself. Face of humanitarian crises, for example, the refugee population due to wars or military dictatorships, there are people who decide to take action to change a precarious situation. Faced with the limits of many political or formal institutions, these human actions demonstrate the duality between crisis and solidarity. My project seeks to understand the gender and intercultural relations that occur in this action and reaction.
