Why do you participate in Artists@Work? What do you expect from this experience?

I participate in this workshop because I need to grow in the field of documentary cinema and I think this is an excellent opportunity to do it. I started recently to be interested on filmmaking , almost two years ago, thanks to a participatory video workshop that I joined in my city with 4CaniperStrada collective, with which I started collaborate. I was looking for a way to express myself and I found affinity with the film medium, now it is time to study and practice to develop new projects in progress.

Explain the main thematics of your project

The film explore from different perspectives the contemporary issues around women victims of sexual slavery and  catholic religious community that are involved against the trafficking.

In Sardinia a nun's congregation leads from many years a regional project with young Nigerians women, as a part of different social activities that the nuns carry out helping those in need.

We would understand also the role of religious beliefs of Nigerian community considering the voodoo ritual as a main key to understand the dynamics of sexual trafficking in Europe starting from the latest news coming from Nigerian religious authority.

Explain the different stages of production of your work

We start developing our idea last year, researching and collecting all information (news, facts, statistics, stories of witness, anthropological studies) useful to understand the contemporary issue about trafficking  of Nigerian women victims of sexual slavery in Europe.

From February, after first workshop of A@W, we focused on Sardinian nuns that are involved directly against women trafficking in our region. We are now starting to explore the context, collecting all information useful to define the main subject of the film. We write some ideas about documentary's script, but we consider that exploring reality gives always different starting points, so we will be open to deconstruct our script and take new suggestions. We would like to start a long- term observation, trying to follow and film some stories and their development, searching for a narrative approach and conflicts, while documenting the everyday life of nuns and of main characters.
