Disruption
Posted by Tzivan Derveaux

Why do you participate in Artists@Work? What do you expect from this experience?

I participate in order to push myself beyond my usual practice of photography, to search a new visual writing. As I'm a self-taught photographer, it's also very interesting for me to be supported and be well-advised by a mentor.

Explain the main thematics of your project

In the past few years the world of working turned upside down with the rise of the digital plateform economy. There is not anymore a employee and his employer but an independent contrator who gets paid by a digital plateform.

It links the customers with a service provider, such as a passenger driver or a food delivery biker. The marketing of those leading compagnies highlights the financial benefits to all participants.

They have been very sucessful and this "sharing economy" introduces new rules, new relationships that I want to question.

I'd like to focus on food delivery bikers in Lyon, France, following them during their shifts. They work for companies such as Deliveroo, Uber Eats or Foodora. They are students, or recent graduate looking for a steady job.

Explain the different stages of production of your work

Research work and collection job of material and informations about what really means in fact this sharing economy. Until May I'd like to make some interviews and to start shooting as far as possible the people who will participate to my documentary project. Finally the editing until July.

Explain the choice of the title

The dominant economic and financial spheres describes this changing job market as a great "disruption". This word is part of a  "startup company Newspeak" that I'd like to include to my work. It will also be a disruption in the way I do photography.
